Calpe is one of the biggest towns located in the Marina Alta. More than a half of its inhabitants are foreigners (the majority are English or German). The nearest hospital is located 19 km from Calpe. There is a golf course, where people can learn this sport and participate in tournaments.
In the past, as well as the majority of the villages in the area, Calpe’s economy was based on almond trees, raisins and fishing.
In the 1960s this changed as the tourism became its main source of income, therefore its population grew from 2000 inhabitants to nearly 30000.
Calpe has about 13 km of coast. Here you can visit the following beaches:
The Calalga beach, the Racó del Corb beach, the Puerto Blanco beach, the Levante beach or de La Fossa, the Cantal Roig beach, the Arenal-Bol beach, the Gasparet beach, the les Urques beach, the Manzanera beach, the Racó beach, the Peñón beach, the Mallorquín beach and the Basetes beach.
